Remember when everyone panicked about employers looking at Facebook?

31 Jan

Remember when people used to use dumb insider joke nicknames on Facebook? Oh you still do that? Oh you do that so employers can’t find you so they can’t see all your embarrassing, immature posts? Oh you really think they can’t find you?

Oh I’m unemployed?

Your mom’s unemployed.

I do look a candidates FB profiles when I can find them (usually I can). But usually as part of the selling process rather than trying to eliminate them (or when I’m looking for passive candidates – meaning, people who might be qualified for my jobs but aren’t looking for a new one). Recruiters (and hiring managers) generally want to fill positions. Of course the industry I’m in at the moment is full of eccentric people, so my 2 cents is probably not as relevant in more conservative companies.

Good to hear! I just try to control my privacy settings pretty tightly. And keep it PG. And hope people realize my Facebook is not my resume.

It’s my cover letter. I mean, duh. 😉
